On Camera Acting for Kids

Instructor: Nahanni Johnstone
Price: $339.00 ($300.00 + $39.00 HST)

As the mother of two performers as well as being an actor and coach myself, I have a unique perspective of what is needed to thrive in a performing arts career. The safety and security of my children is always my priority, and supporting their freedom to express themselves creatively while participating in the business of acting is my job as their coach as well as their Mom. I believe their confidence, happiness and sense of fun is the most important aspect of their experiences as actors.

This class is for Children aged 10-12 who want to work in TV and film. The work is done is a safe and nurturing environment where children will build confidence along with their skill set. Using improvisation, physical action, and imagination, scripts are approached in a way that brings each child’s own unique perspective and personality into play, creating characters that are natural and fun.

Actors will learn how to analyze scripts, learn lines quickly and easily, handle nerves, prep for auditions, build characters, make choices, and take direction!

Each actor will work at their own pace and level. Scripts will be provided, and actors are welcome to bring in material of their choice from their favourite shows to work on. On the last day of class, scenes will be taped and emailed to parents (and agents where applicable). Parents are invited to attend a 2 hour workshop and Q & A to learn about the business and ways to support their children’s careers. From audition prep to what to avoid spending money on, all topics are open for discussion. Bring your coffee and questions!

Class is ongoing and repeatable in 6 week sessions. Enrollment is limited to 8 students

Nahanni came highly recommended as a coach and acting mentor for my 11 year old daughter. Nahanni is an extremely skilled and accomplished actor and teacher, who has a unique ability to connect with children and work with them in a way that is both rigorous as well as nurturing and kind. She seeks to understand the individual child and always preserve the rehearsal or taping space as one that is safe, child centered and supportive. She has challenged my daughter in new, creative ways while developing a solid technique for on-camera work.
